Bikini Body!

Happy day to you, dear reader!

If you have been reading this blog for any time now, you probably realize that I have a problem with rules… I think rules are necessary. But fashion and style rules? Well, let’s talk about one of those.

Rules? What Rules?

If you spend any time out in the interwebs, you’ve probably come across lists of what every woman must have in her wardrobe, and other lists about what no woman over the age of (fill in the blank) should wear. With summer (and therefore bathing suit season) soon upon those of us in the northern hemisphere, let’s talk bikinis.

More than one list tells us women of a certain age that bikinis are no longer acceptable. Acceptable to whom? I don’t get it. I don’t see anyone telling men with varicose veins to stop wearing shorts, or men with paunches to make sure to keep them hidden at the beach. So what is it about women’s bathing suit habits that make them ripe for discussion? I am not advocating that everyone out there should go run out and buy a bikini for summer. But if you prefer a bikini and are more comfortable in one than a maillot, be my guest!

Ladies, all you need for a bikini body is your body, and a bikini.

That’s it. (Yes. I DO mean the body you have right now.) If someone has the gall to tell you (unsolicited) that you shouldn’t be seen in one, it says far more about his or her manners than it does about your shape! I’m 55 and I just bought a new two-piece. I wear a one-piece when swimming laps at the pool, but for the beach, I prefer a two-piece. It’s simply logistics. I find it easier to fit my different sized top and bottom, and it’s so much simpler to use the bathroom when you are not trying to wriggle that soggy casing up and down. And it feels more fun. (Okay, so that last one is not logistics.)

What about cellulite? Yes. Saggy bum? Yes. What about them? I have both. If you want to wear a bikini, are comfortable in one, and you have found one that fits and supports you well, (A missing top or bottom when you pop out of a wave is not a good surprise!) please be my guest, and wear it with confidence.

Hints/Tips

And if you need a little help with the confidence to pull it off, let me throw three quick style tips at you. (1) Big Hat. (2) Big Sunnies. (3) Big Tote. Now go rock your bikini bod! (And don’t forget the sunscreen! Especially on the tummy!)

So what’s your favorite kind of swimsuit? And why? You know my preferences… Let’s start a conversation in the comments below!

Stylishly yours,
