Color Obsession: Aqua & Lilac
Happy day, reader dear!

Have you ever had (As my husband puts it) a craving flung upon you? Out of apparently nowhere, you want pizza, or artichokes, or Thai food. Most of us get it when thinking about food cravings, but how about color cravings?
Color cravings? I know it sounds strange, but lately I’m obsessed with Lilac and Aqua. Especially together. Odd? Yes, but I think in all the craziness of current times, I’m longing for softness, and soft and calming colors. You might even say 1950’s colors, although that wouldn’t be quite right. (The aqua, yes! Lilac, not so much…)
If this sounds good to you and you are searching for Aqua, think about also searching for Light or Pale Turquoise, and even Mint or Water. Back in 2018, I had a fling with this color, but it didn’t stick… I included it in my Summer Capsule Wardrobe that year; I loved the cool watery feeling, but not how it looked with the blushes and pinks I was wearing in quantity. It felt too syrupy sweet combined with the pinks.

With lilac? Much less syrupy! But, I don’t want to overdo it. I already had the top and the sandals below, so when I saw the vintage Vera Neumann scarf on Ebay, it seemed like a no-brainer! And the dangly earrings above were a freebie with a jewelry order I placed earlier this season, so it looks like I have all I need for a Mid-Century Modern color-vibe. (Not that Lilac actually fits a Mid-Century palette, but the aqua does all that heavy 50’s lifting! I mean look at that car…)
Maybe you don’t fancy mint. That’s just fine! If Lilac is more your speed, lilac away, and don’t forget to expand your search to include Lavender, Hyacinth, and Amethyst! (And also plain old Purple!) All this talk about purple has me Jones-ing for that Eiffel Tower scarf above… You know I’m all about the accessories! If you need a post about using a color blast to update your look for a season, there’s more about how to do that in this Add 5! post.
So how about you? What colors are you wearing a lot of lately? What’s appealing to you? Have you thought about why? Color geek that I am, I’ll write you a color prescription: Grab your favorite colors and wear them! We can all use a little extra cheer; make yourself smile when you catch your reflection. And someone else, too! (Whenever I wear red shoes, people smile.) Never underestimate the power of color!
Please take care of yourself, and keep safe and sound, sane and stylish!

PS: Now I’m wondering if that paisley scarf might just be my summer capsule inspo piece… Hmmmmm!

Hi, Liz – My color combo this spring is the ubiquitous turquoise and coral. I always did like the tropical colors best and it so happens that they are my best colors anyway! I’m looking forward to trying this color combination of aqua with lavender soon. Thanks – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
