Copycat Style: April 2023

White Jeans + Olive Utility Jacket

Happy day, Reader Dearest!

It’s mid-April.

AND it’s BAAAACK!

I’m trying to get back into the swing of SO many things.

Like Copycat Style posts.

If you are new to closetplay.biz, Welcome! It’s great to have you here! Copycat Style is/was(?) a monthly series in which I take outfits I find on Pinterest (or elsewhere) to use as inspiriation for my own outfit. It’s about taking looks, extracting what works for your personality, style and shape and using what you own to create a look that works for you! Copycatting is NOT about duplicating an outfit.

If you are returning, Welcome back! You are the reason I keep writing! You know how I feel: there’s no need to keep me a secret; please share your Closet Play love with friends and family.

It’s been SO long since I’ve written a Copycat Style post, and almost as long since I’ve played on Pinterest pinning anything but food and home images.

Which means it’s time to get back to some style pins!

To refresh my memory, I took a peek back at what I was thinking this month last year. Okay. Now I remember how this goes!

Maybe this outfit is a cross between a Copycat Style post and a Style/Restyle post?

Let’s take a look at this month’s inspiration looks…

What elements bind all three?

White Inner Column, Olive Utility Jacket, Great Accessories

What elements do I prefer from each?

I LOVE a white column, especially when the weather heats up! Unfortunately, we haven’t had much warm weather yet–but we will (Oh, will we ever!), so I want to test drive this theme for when all I want is white. I like both the pants column AND the dress. Right now our weather feels more jeans-y rather than my lightweight cotton dress, so let’s run with that. I’m a superfan of the big sunnies in the middle and last look. I like the casual slouch factor of the bag on the right and the hand-carry of the middle look. I like the colored accessories of the flatlay on the left. (Yes, the first image is from a post I wrote a loooong time ago. Here you go.)

What do I not want?

An all-neutral look. They don’t work well for my 2N+1C Color Contrast; I’ll need to punch up the white and olive with some colored accessories. I don’t love the sleek hair, either. Scratch that. I think sleek hair looks amazing. Unfortunately, my hair doesn’t naturally do sleek and I’m not interested in the 30 minutes of dryer gymnastics (AND product) it would take to make sleek happen. Fun hair clips? Maybe another day. I do sparkly hair clips sometimes when Mr. CP and I go dancing. As for the massive bangle stack on the far right? It’s great and not conducive to sitting at a keyboard. Sigh.

What do I own to work with?

My Spring Capsule Wardrobe contains these basics. (Although this super trendy utility look doesn’t really flow with my Spring Style Inspo!)

How did it turn out?

Did I get the style is serious business look right? 😉

I LIKE it! I think I’ll try the same colorway with my oversized white cotton dress when the weather heats up. Then I’ll sub in my blush heeled sandals. Another option? This same combination with a neckerchief added. Finding the right one will be a challenge; my green Beauty Bundle is more emerald/malachite rather than moss. What’s a Beauty Bundle? So glad you asked!

The Deets

Remember how I said I needed to add color? Maybe it’s not so much about color as a blush of pink!

I opted for my blush espadrilles, beaded necklace and a pink bag. A Colored Bag makes all the difference! (That’s why I call it a Style Staple.) I don’t subscribe to a lot of Must-Haves, but a colored bag is one item I think every woman’s wardrobe deserves…

How About You?

Have you been missing the monthly Copycat Style posts? Do you have your own Copycat Style board on Pinterest? What is catching your eye lately? Are you playing with your style more now that the weather is changing? Do tell! I love to hear from you–I’ve saved a special little spot on the interwebs just for you… XO

Stylishly yours!

I like your jacket. It isn’t olive green. But, I can’t tell if it is black or blue and what fabric it is. Can you share that information? Also, I was interested in the necklace you have on.

Hi, Louise! Thank you for stopping by! The jacket is a deep moss green waxed canvas; I found it years ago at a consignment shop–It’s by J. Crew. They make a similar jacket every year! The necklace is from a company called French Kande. They make each piece to order right in LA. I like the sustainability of their business model. Hope that helps!
