This month’s inspo?
Let’s see…

What elements bind these looks?
Statement coats. I’ve been obsessed with them for a while, but they are really taking off this spring! Jeans. (No surprise there. Hair parted in the middle?
What elements do I prefer from each?
Each of these coats packs a punch all on its own, but I must admit, I love the striped shirt under the minty floral kimono. I like the smaller more structured bags of the center and right outfits over the tote. I prefer the not holey jeans on either side to the air-conditioned version from D&G, BUT I do like their cuff detail! Give me a shorter coat like the one on the right, please. I’d like to be cool and hide behind some oversized sunnies, but those pics always make me feel like a fool!
What do I not want?
There’s not much to choose from in the shoe department here. The only shoes I can see are the lace-ups in the middle photo, and those don’t feel right to me. I already mentioned that the holey jeans and the tote don’t make my heart sing. Also, I’m no kimono lover. Yes, they are hugely popular, but my personality likes more structure to my clothes. Kimonos are too light and airy-fairy for my preferences. If you love them, run with them! You probably can’t see the details of the center look, but she’s laden with gold chains. I love the look, but it feels like too much for work from home, so I’ll pop on my oversized hoops and run with those. (Yes, they are still a fave.)
What do I own to work with?
Statement coat. Check! (I found this one pre-loved last November, and have been looking for excuses to wear it. I have a luncheon next week… Hmmmm. Jeans. Check. I pondered my Levi’s 501’s, but wanted to cuff the leg, so the BF’s it is. Striped top. Check. (Not part of my Spring Capsule Wardrobe, but at hand on the hanging rack that’s part of my office backdrop… Borrowed!)
Now, let’s add some deets:
I’m going for pumps and a small saddlebag in colors found in the coat. It has a rounded shape, but plenty of structure. And sunglasses, because every fashionista needs to hide behind her shades, even if they’re on my head here.
How did it turn out?

Sweet! I like this a LOT! If it’s cool enough next week, I want to wear this to the luncheon! Note to Self: Make sure to add a few statement pieces to my summer capsule.
So How About You?
Which of the inspo looks do you like best? There’s plenty of space in the comments… Let me know what you are thinking!
Stylishly yours,

I love the look you created from the inspiration. I love statement coats but I’ve never owned a patterned one, just bright colours which, as I’m getting older, don’t work for me so well.
Liz K
I get that, Carol. The brights don’t work as well for me anymore, either… Unless I’m willing to punch up the makeup. This one, being predominantly navy, isn’t as overwhelming as an all pink coat would be… Although, that WOULD be really fun!

Love this look, Liz. I have a plain corduroy coat which is new for me. Like your coat it is collarless. What would you suggest to add to make it more interesting assuming I stick with jeans and striped top?
Liz K
Hi, Ulrike! Thank you for commenting. What color is your corduroy coat? And tell me a little bit about your coloring? Are you fair or dark haired? What color are your eyes? All of that plays into the choices I would make!

The striped T and mint floral topper combination on the left really caught my attention. Stripes + florals = love. But the pink jacket on the right is so striking, I’d like to see that one with stripes! Your version looks great. I like the rose accessories a lot. I wouldn’t have considered such light colored jeans with this combination, so that is interesting to see.

Thank you, Sally! Yes, it would have been easy to do a dark jean, but with my overall light coloring (Thank you, grey hair.), a dark jean with this would have looked heavy. That and the fact that I really wanted the roll…
NATALIE K
Liz, It’s missing…somrthing! Perhaps a stripe shirt ith smaller stripes.
Liz K
Yes, Natalie, I’d like a narrower stripe, but that was the one I had on hand! My goal is to work with what I already own; I don’t need to buy more!
