Copycat Style: May 2022

Midi-Skirt + Tee + Platform Sandals

Happy day, Reader Dearest!

The ides snuck up on me again! You’d think I could Beware them.

There I was, happily minding my own business and working on the #coolthingschallenge post when I noticed the dates later in the week and realized that absolutely NO thought had gone into this month’s Copycat Style post.

Strike one.

Even worse? I haven’t playing much on Pinterest lately, so my inspiration game is lacking.

Strike two.

So what’s a girl to do to avoid striking out?

Type a search into Pinterest for an item you want inspo for to see what comes up!

I typed in Polka Dot Skirt Outfit Summer and up popped this:

Which is a start. But not my style. I need some color, peeps! So I kept scrolling and widened my search by taking off Summer. Which netted me more hits! And this month’s inspo:

What elements bind these looks?

The polka dot midi for sure, otherwise, not much! We’ve got different seasons and all kinds of style personalities combining with Feminine.

What elements do I prefer from each?

All the color in the first look makes me happy as does the pattern mix! I love the platform sandals in the middle look and the colors in the bag and sash. The pattern mix, casual bag and the waist definition in the last look rocks!

What do I not want?

I’m not loving the business-y looking bags in the first and second looks, nor the white tees the middle and last outfits feature, but that’s going to be my option. Because the shoes. I don’t have a colorful striped tee that will work with the shoes I want to wear. Sigh. Wardrobe Gap noted. You’d think I’d go for the third look, but that skirt has too much volume. And with flat sandals? Not for this altitudinally challenged woman!

Look two is lacking interest and three feels boho accessories overload. Finding the Goldilocks combination here will be tricky.

What do I own to work with?

Polka Dot Midi? Check. White Tee? Ugh and check. Platform Sandals? Check.

Now, to add some deets…

A colorful basket bag and sash will loosen the navy and white up a bit. This may turn out to be too much going on, but there’s only one way to find out!

How did it turn out?

Strike out averted! The image is fuzzy, but there were multiple challenges this day. Not the outfit, though! I loved the outfit. The only change I needed to make it work for the day was to trade the cute basket bag for a larger basket since an urgent care trip with hubby (for a particularly nasty case of poison ivy) rearranged our plans. This basket will get its outing another day, but I needed to carry files and notebooks to work on while we waited.

It’s funny how before putting the outfit on, all the color and pattern felt like too much, but once assembled, it works! Style Moral: Don’t assume the worst! Give it a try, you might just be pleasantly surprised! As for the deets, you’ve seen this sash before in multiple Halloween costumes and I dug out an old pair of red hoops to create a color repeat…

So How About You?

Are you a baseball fan? Who’s your team? Which of the three inspo looks do you prefer? Are skirts a warm weather staple for you? Do you find outfit inspiration on Pinterest? Food recipe inspo? There’s plenty of space in the comments… Let me know what’s on your mind!

Stylishly yours,

Liz, Just adorable!! Great job!! I own a navy pleated skirt with small white polka dots that I plan to wear casually with a red tee and navy sandals or perhaps white leather tennis shoes (if I buy them eventually)with a red leather handbag and dressier medium floral blouse with dressier navy loafers and a navy leather handbag with pearls.

Thank you, Natalie! Your combo sounds fun! I shy away from pairing navy and blue; it feels like I’m wearing a flag or my high school colors. I love the versatility of a great skirt; yours sounds terrific. It would be darling paired with yellow, turquoise, or coral as well!

I definitely preferred the first inspiration look with the stripes and closed toe shoes to the white T with waist definition + sandals versions because that’s the only one I could imagine doing a variant on given my shape/preferences. Your white T + striped sash version is really cute on you!
