Fall 10X10 Capsule

Challenge? Exercise? Activity?

Happy day, Reader Dearest!

I’m super excited about fall.

And fall style!

Because fall is my favorite season for dressing.

Boots.

Jackets.

Scarves.

Why else am I excited? Because this! OMGoodness. There are nighttime temps in the 60’s coming! And only a few 90+ degree days. I’m thankful! Often our Septembers are just as hot as August and it can be hard to get #allthefallfeels. Who even wants a hot PSL when the temps are still in the mid-90’s? I know you can get it iced, but…

To jump start my fall style I’ve decided that a 10X10 challenge is just the ticket. It will push me to wear some more of those fall pieces from my French 5 (That’s next week’s post!) rather than just wearing the same old same old–because it’s easy and requires no brain power. Dressing from my 10 requires no brain power, either! (I mean, how hard can it be when there are only 10 items from which to choose? ) AND it interrupts those habit patterns from summer dressing. (Yes, Blue + White, I’m talking to you.)

Now, I don’t normally check the weather forecast by the month unless I am travelling. This month, though, I feel it’s time for another 10X10. Since creating a 10 piece capsule to wear for 10 days is a bit like packing for a trip, checking the weather was mandatory. (What else is mandatory before packing for a trip? Read this!) And why in the world would I do a 10X10? Let’s just say that it’s a good exercise for your style muscles.

Planning My 10

Like packing for a trip, I need to look at the weather (YAY!) and my itinerary (In this case, my work schedule) to see what kind of items will work best. Although this weather isn’t going to indulge my wishes for boots, jackets and scarves, (At least not all together!), it should be a good test drive of my Fall Capsule Wardrobe and an opportunity to play with Bold Easy Polish–the vibe I’m hoping to channel this season.

My 10

I could go for my standard 4-3-2-1 Pack. This pack includes 4 Tops, 3 Bottoms, 2 Toppers and 1 Dress, which might work–however, with temps in the upper 80’s and low 90’s, I will be better off switching to 2 Dresses and 1 Topper. (That’s the plan, anyway!)

Let’s start with the tops: Purple Linen Top, Denim Shirt, Polka Dot Silk Blouse, Striped Tee (All Easy. The Purple Linen is a bit Bold and the silk blouse adds a smidge of Polish.)

Bottoms Next! Jeans (Of course!), Green Trousers, Shorts (Shorts and Jeans are Easy, for sure! The Green Trousers? Maybe a little Bold depending on how they are paired…)

Time for dresses… Navy Linen, Green Floral (Dresses are the ultimate in Easy! One-and-Done dressing.)

One topper! It better make a statement–Magenta Linen Jacket (Bold and Polish)

Lastly, three shoes. (ONLY 3?) Navy Suede Sandals, Slingback Heels, ??? The third is a toss-up! I’m torn between my Nude Patent Flats and a pair of Nude-ish Block Heeled Sandals. With our temps, I’d choose the sandals, but my heart really wants a pair of flats here. Stay tuned to Insta… The final decision will come down to what’s practical on the day I need them.

There’s no PT gear or swimsuit here. Am I skipping on exercise? No way, if I don’t get in my daily walks, my emotional health suffers and everyone around me pays the price. No Walk=Cranky Liz. Special purpose clothing is not included as part of the 10.

As for accessories? I’m not limiting them. I do expect you’ll see a flower brooch a few times, though… That’s how obsessions work!

4-3-2-1-Blastoff!

I’m starting my 10 X 10 on the 10th! Why not try your own? Choose your ten and let me know how it goes. You can start any day; it doesn’t need to be a 10th!

How About You?

Have you ever done a 10X10 Style Challenge? Or any style challenge? (No, living out of suitcase on vacation doesn’t count!) Did you enjoy it? Hate it? What did you learn? Do tell… I love to hear from you and there’s certainly room on the interwebs for your thoughts, too! XO

Stylishly yours,

This was fun. I am planning a trip to see my sister in about 10 days and hope the weather in east Tennessee will be cooler than it is in west Texas. We have been so hot this summer. I have tried to wear dresses more often this summer because they are cooler.

This is a good formula for planning your outfits. Would work for packing for my trip, too. In your earlier fall outfit inspiration post, I loved the green pants with the purple blouse. Last year I bought a plum pullover top. Can’t wait to fish it out of the closet and try it with my green utility pants. I have the pants ready to take to Tennessee. That top would be a great transition piece to pair with them.

Your plum top sounds like a wonderful wardrobe addition, Leslie! Can’t wait to see it with the green pants. I use this 4-3-2-1 for any trip of a week or more, so I’m sure it will work for your Tennessee adventure! Enjoy your trip!
