My Daily Dozen–Summer Update

Making the Transition from Spring to Summer

Happy day, Reader Dearest!

They say hindsight is 20/20.

Things that seem obvious after the fact weren’t obvious at all before or during. It’s the same for our wardrobes! Sometimes the best laid plans…

Like last summer’s capsule wardrobe.

Which got me to thinking about my Spring/Summer Daily Dozen.

How does it change for our hot and notoriously sticky Georgia summers?

Say it with me…

“It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.”

There’s something to be said for that. I’m silly enought to have traveled to Arizona in the middle of July.

But no, even without the humidity, I’m not built for Georgia summers.

Let me be clear, it’s not the daytime highs that get me. It’s the fact that the nightime “lows” are in the mid to upper 80’s. There’s never an opportunity to cool down.

So far, though, the weather has been lovely!

(I’m sure I’ve gone and jinxed it, now.)

Spring Daily Dozen

A year or so ago, I started tracking not only what I was wearing (No complicated spread sheets or app needed. I’m ALL about simple.), but I also started noting what I was wearing #onrepeat. In any season, those #onrepeat items are the backbone of my wardrobe and became known as my Daily Dozen. Disclaimer: My Dozen won’t be your Dozen. Because you’re not me and I’m not you! (Here’s where the Daily Dozen idea originated.)

I used my Spring Daily Dozen as the starting point for my Spring Style 101 Outfit Formula Cheat Sheet, but as our temperatures rise, this Dozen won’t work…

Adapting the Dozen

A few simple changes should take this Dozen into summer.

  • Let’s lose a pair of the Levi’s 501’s and replace them with a pair of Jean Shorts.
  • Any (or all) of the tops can be reimagined in short-sleeved or sleeveless versions.
  • Pointy-Toed Flat will be replaced by a Flat Sandal. Something with a little more polish than a pair of flip-flops. But ALL the ease!
  • That Chanel-Type Jacket isn’t in this season’s color palette. Let’s replace it with a Lightweight Cardie that can handle a little crush in the straw tote and come out for overly air-conditioned spaces. A Great Shawl or Poncho does the same with a little more style cred. Hmmm… (This one might be in the running.)

What’s Going

It’s time to take the wool sweaters to the cleaners. I have a couple of navy pullover sweaters that have seen a TON of wear since December. And a creamy white pullover. They all deserve a nice trip to the spa and a vacation! My green wool jacket will chaperone them. What’s do I have now?

A Month to Go

There’s about one month to go until I “officially begin” my Summer Capsule Wardrobe. If you are looking for inspiration, here are some previous Summer Capsule posts. This year I’m trying something different, as I mentioned in my Spring/Summer Capsule Inspo post. We’ll see how it goes. I’m not feeling sick of my options yet, so carrying the theme over into Summer is feeling like a good plan!

How About You?

Is summer on its way to you? When do you start thinking about summer style? Do you love summer style or do you have a ticket on the summer style struggle bus? (It may be that relaxed isn’t your style vibe! That’s great! You do you! You CAN do polished, even in summer.) What are your favorite color combinations in hot weather? Do you know your Summer Daily Dozen? I’d LOVE to see your list! Is there a summer style vibe you want to channel? Do share… There’s plenty of room for you here!

Stylishly yours,
