Red, White & Blue for 2022
Patriotic Style with Polish
Happy day, Reader Dear!

Summer is Red, White and Blue (RWB) season here in the US.
Desserts featuring flags with strawberry stripes and blueberry fields of stars decorate magazine covers everywhere you turn.
Ginghams abound in blues and reds.
Polka dots, too!
Blue denim and chambray rule.
And choose florals in any color you like to add to the mix!
With all this red, white and blue-ageness going on, it can be hard to wear any of the three without feeling flagged out. So today I’m styling red, white and blue with their friends for outfits that feel holiday appropriate without that flag-as-toga vibe.
I started by breaking out the three dresses that I added to my summer capsule to compensate for the heat. (Yes, I had a little wardrobe fail.) You could style these looks with shorts and a tee in the same color combos for a similar feeling… Oooh, now I have double the outfit options for the holiday!
Let’s ad-dress our looks in color order! (#sorrynotsorry) Each of these looks is pretty minimal. Our Georgia heat (AND humidity. Don’t forget the humidity, folks. As if I could!) doesn’t lend itself to a lot of fuss and fluff.
Red
There’s enough red here to do all the talking on it’s own, so star earrings, a striped basket bag and some overized sunnies are all I need! Substitute gold stars if your coloring is warm… They’ll look amazing!

With my light hair, nude shoes are my choice. I wish I had silver flats! If your hair is dark, try navy. It will create a great bookend (Or TnT) effect!
White
And blue are a summer classic! I’m opting for chambray rather than navy. Yes, partly because my coloring is light but mostly because the lighter blue lowers the Value Contrast. Bonus: White and Chambray doesn’t have that super classic navy and white vibe.

A pair of chambray blue espadrilles would rock this look! I might still be crushing on the mid-to light blue and white thing… If your Value Contrast is higher, sub in that navy and that classic vibe will look amazing on you!
Blue
This is fast becoming summer 2022’s LDD! (Little Dark Dress–I don’t need an LBD. You might not either!)

The alabaster white of the sandals and chalk of the bag create a softer look than bright white. AND are easier to wear! A pair of statement earrings finishes the look.
How About You?
Will you be celebrating the 4th? If so, how? I heard the first of the home batch fireworks last night coming from the neighborhood over from ours… I’m lifting all those with PTSD in prayer. I think I’d like to go see the fireworks this year. It’s been a few years. Do you do your own fireworks? Is there a great show in your area? What are your favorites? Do you have special 4th of July traditions or meals you make? Do tell! I’m always looking for ideas and holiday inspo…
Stylishly yours,

3 perfect summer outfits. Dresses like these are such a dream to wear and so very charming. Your look adorable in the red swing dress – I peaked on Instagram. So true that a dress can be any color or pattern that strikes your fancy – doesn’t have to go with anything. The little openings at the sides on the ON poplin dresses are such a cute detail that I had not noticed initially. I think you should congratulate yourself on 3 fabulous purchases, and your stylings above are patriotic in such a pretty, soft way. LOVE chambray with white.

Oooh, Kathleen! Thank you. Charming is such a lovely descriptor! I was a little unsure about the cutouts in the white and navy dresses, but decided that any air conditioning was a good thing and they were subtle enough to work for me. Hope you had a wonderful 4th!

The Splash was a 31 Day experience, Natalie, so yes, the last Style Exercise email went out July 1st. You will receive another email next week with a list of all the Exercises and a few extras in case you want to repeat your practices. The Style Splash group will be open for you and all the Splashers through the month of August! I hope to see you posting in there!
