Shop Your Wardrobe for Holiday Flair

By Changing Your Accessories!

Happy day, Reader Dearest!

The holiday season is in full swing!

And you never know what wonderful surprises might come your way…

OR what you put on the wrong date on the calendar.

(Not that I’d know anything about that…)

If you are looking for the December Copycat Style post, fear not. It’s merely delayed this month for (possibly) a more timely holiday style tips post!

Annoyingly, it’s that time to drop this PSA:

Our mission here at Closet Play Image is to inspire you with Bright Ideas for Your Style and Your Wardrobe. I’m thankful you are here! When you find something useful, illuminating, or even plain old amusing, please share it with a friend! (Or on social media.) Saving to Pinterest rocks my little world! Because style is my business and not only a hobby, I have expenses. Keeping the lights on and internet up and running doesn’t happen because the utilities people think I’m swell! Silly utilities… What do they know?! If you have any pull there, please give them a ring? If not, please sign up for my monthly newsletter; there I share highlights and random special content (and offers) only for newsletter subscribers. Sounds enticing, doesn’t it? Thank you. You’re the best! XO

A Little History

Black Vintage Clothing Hanging on Hooks

Just a few generations ago, men and women of means dressed multiple times daily. (And when I say means, I’m not talking Downton Abbey.) Men dressed for office work shifted to a more relaxed look when returning home. (I always think of Mr. Rogers and his sneakers and sweater!) For dinner and evening affairs, dressing back up was the default. Women dressed for day, often for afternoon and again for evening. Even those with less had their Sunday Best. The phrase Sunday Best had meaning.

Today, most of us don’t live that way. We may wear one set of clothes to work and change when we return home, but that’s the extent of it. And if we no longer work outside the home OR work from home? All bets are off.

We’ve collectively lost our sense of occasion, and now think of Special Occasion as Formal. In between PT gear and Formal lies an entire sartorial wonderland! I’d like to encourage you to rediscover that sense; we say special occasion for a reason. What do you do to take the everyday into special occasion territory? Well, this Image Consultant suggests switching up your accessories.

Let’s Talk Versatile Style

AKA: Dawn-to-Dusk Dressing

One of the best ways to reclaim that sense of occasion, without wearing three outfits a day is by changing out your accessories. Let me show you!

The other day, I dressed for work-from-home, right off my Fall Style Pick List. (It was a Monday; I was less than inspired.)

White Jeans + Sweater + Booties + Scarf + Colored Bag

And then I got this niggling feeling like I’d forgotten something… Nothing on the calendar, but the feeling just lingered. So I thought, What WOULD I do, if something festive came up?

I’d make a little accessories switch and carry on!

So I changed out the neckerchief for something with more impact, the hoops for more sparkle and the bag for more shine. Less than one minute later… (And no phonebooth necessary!)

WAY more festive! And nothing new was purchased to make this happen.

How About You?

What does Special Occasion mean to you? Is a Special Occasion something to look forward to and dress up for? Or something to dread? Life is a special occasion! Why not celebrate it? (Hard times and all.) What are you wearing? Yes, right now. (Unless you are in your jammies. Then, imagine what you wore yesterday or what you will wear tomorrow.) How can you switch up your outfit with accessories? Do tell… I love to hear from you! XO

Stylishly yours,
