Pattern Mix Surprise!

Happy day, reader dear!
Do you have #onrepeat outfits?
I don’t mean the can’t-be-bothered-yoga-pants-and-tee #onrepeat.
I mean an outfit that you LOVE and wear over and over again.
Do you?
I do. And sometimes they come out of left field.
You know, you are just flipping through your closet and all of a sudden you think Why haven’t I tried those together before?
Or maybe you don’t. (PS: If that’s a problem, I might just be able to help… That’s what I do!)
What’s a great outfit feel like? In this case, the minute I put it on, I felt so completely and totally ME that it took even me by surprise.

The Surprise

Why I LOVE It
You know how kindergarteners dress? They put on all their favorite things together, regardless of whether or not they “match”. Velvet pointsettia Christmas dress with yellow duck rainboots and a purple unicorn headband. That’s a little bit how this outfit feels. A pile of favorites! I wanted to wear the floral blouse AND the leopard skirt. The studded shoes came later, but it feels like my Style Cocktail: Mischievous Femi-Modern and also like the place my Style Cocktail is evolving… Something along the lines of Cheerful Subversive. (One of the pluses of having AND using a personal color palette is that most everything will match. Why? That’s because in a palette, the colors share properties.)
If you are looking for tips for Pattern Mixing, pop on over to YouTube for this video! If you aren’t sure why anyone would want to mix their patterns, read Pattern Mixing, Who, Why & How! (You can catch the video there, too!)
How About YOU?
When you are looking for a new outfit, do you shop your wardrobe first? What surprises have you found in there lately? Are you a happy print/pattern mixer or is one pattern enough for you? What’s your favorite print/pattern? Are you an animal (print) lover? Partial to plaid? A fan of florals? (Can’t resist some alliteration!) Do you have two prints that share colors? How do they play together? Have you worked out your Style Cocktail? What is it? Do tell… I love to hear from you and I’ve saved a little corner of the interwebs just for you!
Stylishly yours,

If I block the purse with my thumb and imagine the shoes being a pewter grey, I begin to like this outfit. I’m not a pattern mixing fan unless it is very subtle, so my view is slanted. You manage to look cute in anything as you are darling overall. I love your spirit and passion regarding our closets. I play every day.

This is certainly not a subtle pattern mix, Kathleen, so I can see why it wouldn’t appeal to you! That’s one of the things I LOVE about style; it’s so completely personal. I’m glad my passion regarding the power of wardrobe comes through! Play on!
Kathleen McDermott
Absolutely! It would be so boring if everyone dressed the same. I am an avid people watcher when I am out and about, and I love seeing well dressed gals (and guys) in all different styles, whether like mine or completely different. Makes me happy.

YES! It takes all kinds to make a world…

Kathleen McDermott – I don’t know where in the world you are right now, but I know wherever you are – they’re lucky to have you.
Your comment above: Exhibit A. Who doesn’t agree? You’re completely RIGHT about LIZ who looks cute in anything and is darling overall!
(Liz – I just re-read your post about picking a formal dress for a special occasion and I was thinking, “WELL, WHAT **DOESN’T** LIZ LOOK DARLING IN?! SHOW ME WHAT!!” And so, I stumped myself. 😉
Also, returning to our topic at hand: Hear, hear Kathleen – your comment about loving Liz for her “spirit and passion regarding our closets.”
Then, Kathleen, you moved on to THIS: “I play every day” and “I am an avid people watcher when I am out and about, and I love seeing well dressed gals (and guys) in all different styles, whether like mine or completely different.”
No final questions, Your Honor. Kathleen Is Officially Well Liked Around Here For Good Reasons Which Are Obvious.
I’m done gushing for the moment. But only for the moment. Consider yourselves forewarned. 🙂

Liz, I LOVE it. I’m a very happy print mixer and seeing it on others makes me smile. Is the dark color in the blouse navy rather than black? I wouldn’t have guessed that.
Liz K
This combination just made me laugh out loud–in a GOOD way! The navy is super dark, Sally, so I pretend it’s whatever color I want it to be… (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)
Lise
Cute outfit! I approve 😉
Liz K
Many thanks, Lise! I would have worn it again today if the temperatures had been warmer…
