Today IS Special!

AKA: Why are you so dressed up?

Happy day, Reader Dearest!

If you are reading this blog, I bet you are the kind of person who does not live your life in workout gear.

I’ll also wager that you’ve been asked Why are you so dressed up? or some variation by others in your world. Especially if you work from home or are retired.

Today, allow me to give you answers to those pesky questions.

In every case, your response is to own it. (If you can throw in a sassy head toss while answering, even better!)

Feel free to Pin this!

Q: Why are you so dressed up?

A: Because I choose to wear what makes me feel good–About ME!

Q: Oooh… Is today special?

A: Yup! I’m alive. That IS special.

Q: Why so fancy? Are you trying to make the rest of us look/feel bad? (How passive-aggressive is THIS?)

A: Nope, I’m simply making myself feel good. I’m not in charge of your look/feelings.

Sometimes these questions come after a compliment; Wow, you look great! Or I love that jacket!

Please do NOT say, This old thing? I’ve had it for years. Do not brush off the compliment. Simply say, Thank you. Own it. And follow it up with, I feel good/great/fabulous today! Or if you don’t , maybe I needed a boost today.

When I left classroom teaching, I received a plaque that hangs in my closet still:

Life is too short to wear boring clothes.

One Wise Woman

I suppose I could give that pithy riposte, but that would require an Etiquette Repent to Nick and Leah of Were You Raised by Wolves… Because the questioner might think I’m saying his or her clothes are boring.

Which I am not.

Let me know what you are thinking…

Stylishly Yours,

PS: Let me know which of the two styles of header images you like best!

I think when you ramp up your style or are getting to know new people, they may wonder at first, but quickly it’ll become clear that it’s just you doing you and these questions will fade off. I think owning it in a cheerful yet breezy way works a lot of the time.

Indeed it does! People adjust quickly; it’s just the crabs who want to pull you down in the bucket who annoy me… It’s not about them, is it, Sally?
